If All the Sky Were Paper

True stories from the front lines — wartime letters brought vividly to life on stage.

If All the Sky Were Paper offers an intimate, deeply human perspective on war through the words of those who lived it. Drawn from real letters written by service members around the world and their loved ones at home, the play captures both the intensity of battle and the quiet moments of connection from the front lines.

Inspired by Andrew Carroll’s bestselling books War Letters and Behind the Lines and framed by his extraordinary journey to collect these correspondences, this 80-minute production blends history and storytelling into a powerful theatrical experience.

Note: The May 1 evening performance and the May 2 matinee performance will both be followed by a talkback with Carroll himself, inviting audiences to reflect on the personal stories that shape our shared history.

Tickets: $10 General Admission

Presented by UC Merced undergraduate students enrolled in GASP 141A "Advanced Performative Storytelling."

Directed and Produced by Jenni Samuelson.
